The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

She's announced it! We've got a title, a description, and even a release date!

Coming from J.K. Rowling on September 27, 2012, The Casual Vacancy::

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Seemingly an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?
Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.

See Jo's site for more info.  And come back here for more details as they are released.

Thanks so much to Farida for alerting me.  I'm knee-deep in edits and am offline to work.  As soon as I finish, though, will scrounge up all the details I can.

I think it will be quite a surreal experience to read a book by J.K. Rowling that is not Harry Potter.

I have to agree. It should be interesting to see her voice come through and tell a completely different story.

Guys, does this book sound like it will be the murder mystery everyone was anticipating? I think it will definitely have mystery -- with JKR how could it not -- but it doesn't sound like a who-dun-it or a thriller, though Barry (one letter away from Harry) may be a murder victim.

What do you all think?

I think that it's a very likely possibility. Oh, I can't wait to read it!

I'm so excited! Not just about the new book but because I can see the comments and comment too!!!

Happy editing, Susan!
Great new book, isn't it? I want to read it, anyway. It is indeed a bit strange that she used Barry, although it's maybe one last sign of "thanks" towards Harry Potter and the fans who made it all possible for her.

I don't know if the Americans among us have heard of Midsomer Murders, but the setting of this book reminds me a bit of those mystery television series.
I agree to others that it is not surreal to read the book of J.K Rowling if it is not Harry Potter. We all know that the book give him a big break because it is good and unique. Hoping that Harry Potter will have another series.
