Weekend Roundup

My, hasn't the Harry Potter world been hopping lately!  So much going on, and with Deathly Hallows coming out and Pottermore coming soon, it will only get livelier.

This blog has been hopping as well, and with so much going on, a few items of interest have not been mentioned properly.  So, I'd like to take this opportunity to do a weekend roundup:

  1. Lauren Busser, also known as @AdelleSouth on Twitter, recently had an article published in the Hartford Courant called "Harry Potter Foe Unleashes Fan's Dark Side."  It's an entertaining and enlightening piece on why some fans find the dark characters of Harry Potter so empowering (especially Bellatrix!).  I highly recommend giving it a read. (Just click here).
  2. I recently was interviewed by Farida Mestek, one of this blog's lovely followers, for her blog at The Upper Kingdom.  If you get a chance, please check the interview out here. :-)
  3. One of the Pottermore posts on this blog was recently picked up and published on the online news source International Business Times. That day was a lot of fun and brought new traffic to the blog!
  4. I'll bepresenting A Writer's Guide to Harry Potter at LeakyCon 2011 later this week and hope to be able to blog and Tweet from there...especially with information regarding the Pottermore preview that will be shared at the conference. If you'll be at LeakyCon, please let me know!
  5. Time has a wonderful article on fanfiction called The Boy Who Lived Forever. Worth the read.
  6. Stylist has a new in-depth look at JKR:  How JK Changed the Face of Literature. Definitely worth the read.
  7. Since I decided to put my workshop book, A Writer's Guide to Harry Potter, up on Kindle, I've discovered several new uses for Kindle. Did you know you can subscribe to blogs and read them anywhere on the go on your Kindle? Amazon does charge a small fee for the convenience, but I've uploaded Harry Potter for Writers for those who choose this option.
  8. Also, because some people have commented to me about how long my posts tend to get, I've decided to also make available some of the longer series of posts on Kindle.  The first up is the recent First Chapter Series analyzing the beginning of The Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone now called A Boy Who Lives Comes to Life.  Altogether, those posts totaled 50 manuscript pages. So, while they are still free to read here on the blog, for those who choose the convenience of their Kindle, it is now available there as well for only $0.99.
  9. And finally, the sale price of A Writer's Guide to Harry Potter is about to expire.  Tomorrow night, Monday 7/11/11, it will go from $2.99 up to its regular price of $4.99.  So, if you've been toying with getting it, you might want to do it now.  As always, I'd love any feedback you'd like to share with me or reviews you'd be willing to post on Amazon.
I'm loving meeting new people and enjoying the different groups that find their way here, both fans searching for Pottermore clues, and writers searching for technique hints from the royal Rowling.  Thanks so much for all your visits, comments, and sharing of links and resources!

  1. Guys, I hit publish too soon on this post before I'd included two good articles, one on fanfiction and one on JK Rowling. They are now in the post, but you might need to hit refresh.

  5. LeakyCon sounds like fun! And I'm looking forward to reading the post on Rowling. I started writing before reading Harry Potter, but the whole series has been such an inspiration to me. Thanks for the links!

  6. Thanks Farida. I wish you could too!

Becca - I'm the same way. Was writing before I read HP, but have found a lot of inspiration in it. Thanks for visiting. I LOVE your blog!
